The Bakongo and its numerous sub-tribes, including the Ba-Solongo (Musserongo) and the Ma-Yombe, whose art is very similar to theirs, may be found beyond the borders of Angola and the Dem.Rep.Congo.
They have a prolific art scene, from the Mantadi stone statues to the mother-child representations and the well-known Nkisi Nkon nail fetish figures, however, masks are seen much less frequently and seldom come on the market.
There is a chip (see photo), consistent with its age, behind the right ear.
Very good aged patina on the inside and outside.
