There are regional variations among the masks of the Dan people who live in the western part of Ivory Coast and eastern Liberia.

However, they are generally characterized by a concave face with large oval eyeholes beneath arched brows, a pointed chin, a protruding mouth, an upturned nose with flaring nostrils and a high-domed forehead.

Dan people have achieved special notoriety in the area for their entertainment festivals which were historically village ceremonies, but are today performed largely for honorable visitors or tourists.

This is an example of such an entertainment mask.
